Halogens Family
EURO CHLOR…
A SECTOR-SPECIFIC GROUP WITHIN
THE HALOGENS FAMILY
Given the diversity of the chemical industry, it is no surprise that the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic, which supports the interests of the European chemical industry sector) also displays a range of activities. Cefic is organised into three major industry clusters: Halogens, Petrochemicals Europe and Specialty Chemicals. Each cluster includes specific sector groups focused on particular chemistries and applications, ensuring a comprehensive approach to advancing technology, innovation and regulatory standards across the industry.
Euro Chlor is one of approximately seventy-five sector groups that finds a home within Cefic, specifically supporting chlor-alkali chemistry. In turn, the association is part of the Halogens family, alongside nine other chemistry-specific groups. These include the Chloroalkanes Sector Group (CASG), Chloroformates Sector Group (CFSG), European Chlorinated Solvents Association (ECSA), European FluoroCarbons Technical Committee (EFCTC), Eurofluor, European Sulphuric Acid Association (ESA), FluoroProducts and PFAS for Europe (FPP4EU), Potassium Sector Group (PSG) and Sodium Chlorate Sector Group (SCSG).
Cefic’s Halogens Industry Sector focuses mostly on chlorine and fluorine. These highly reactive elements form the basis for a wide range of industrial chemicals used in water purification, refrigeration, electronics and more. Halogens also play a critical role in environmental protection, clean energy technologies and the production of life-saving medical treatments.
