A busy year ahead

With power prices continuing to weigh heavily on operational competitiveness, the sector will be watching closely for any meaningful progress on EU energy market reforms, industrial electricity pricing mechanisms, and the broader debate around energy-intensive industries' long-term viability in Europe.

On the regulatory front, the European Commission's Omnibus Simplification Packages will continue to demand close attention. Whilst the promise of reduced administrative burden is welcome, the 'devil will be in the detail' to ensure that simplification does not inadvertently weaken hard-won regulatory clarity.

Equally significant is the ongoing development of a new approach to the Chemicals Best Available Techniques Reference Document (BREFs) under the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED). Whilst not expected 'soon', Euro Chlor will engage all throughout this process to ensure that any requirements are both technically robust and operationally achievable.

Beyond these headline files, our sector will continue to follow the developments around the evolving rules on Chlor-Alkali substances as well as any increasing clarity to the PFAS regulatory landscape. These will impact the materials and processes used across the value chain.

Taken together, the coming twelve months promise a demanding but pivotal regulatory agenda.

Euro Chlor is delighted to announce that its 13th International Chlor-Alkali Technology Conference & Exhibition will take place from 30 May to 01 June 2028 in Milan, Italy.
